June 27, 2011

Hey Everyone,
During this week there were Thunder storms going off left and right. In the night I woke up from a few Thunder storms that have hit. One Thunder bolt I kid you not hit the street next to the apartment!
My week has consisted of waking up in the middle of the night, haha feeling exhausted after eating delicious deserts from neighbors/members, intense workouts to burn off those calories I ate morning/night, walking all day...talking with investigators, less actives, members on the phone/walking to their house, pondering the words of life all day and discussing them with Elder Platter, my knowledge workouts in the morning with reading the Book of Mormon(11pages a day) then a from PMG I feel like can burn so many calories just by thinking. Talk about living the missionary life...lol or as us Missionaries in the GKLM like to say "Living the dream"

Sunday there was a confirmation at church for an investigator. His mom showed up to support him. She was SO nice and friendly to everyone in the ward. There were a few familiar people she knew from the ward. I would have thought she was a member if I didn't know better.

Anyways...so during a conversation I had with a former coal miner I learned that every coal miner has a nickname. I asked him what kind of nicknames people came up with in the mines. He listed off a bunch of nicknames that involved animal names and other strange words...like Scooter, Pooter, Turtle, Worm...etc. The former coal miner mentioned he only remembered what his old miner buddies nicknames were. I thought that was interesting to be in a work place where you've got to have a nicknames.
Its funny since some people in Kentucky with unique names already that could be considered like a nickname like Pancake, Candy...^_^.
Boy do I love Kentucky.

Random things from this week...
My companion and I attempted to speak in a Southern Draw or speak with a twang in our voice...I think my companion and I failed. We'd imitate Australians better than Kentucky people.
At 6:30am Thunder struck next to the apartment!

Customized Yellow School Bus...converted into a family vehicle.
A car in front of me hit a squirrel and then I saw the squirrel tweaking on the road to its death :(.
Another squirrel died right next to the apartment I live at. He was untouched.
A cat without a voice, and a deformed eye...(it belongs to a recent convert)
Eating cake without utensils...(made me feel like a fatty)

Love ya'll,
Got to e-mail my Mission President.
Elder Dimter

Thanks for your letters/e-mails. I'll try responding sometime.
